The Teaching Academy is open to all students who will be entering eleventh and/or twelfth grades next fall from any high school in the Frederick County Public Schools. The Introduction to Teaching course is taught at Brunswick High School. Successful completion of this course is required before the student can participate in a field experience in a grade level of their choice (elementary, middle, or high school) in their feeder pattern schools. Students will have inservice training during the semester or semesters of their field experience/s twice a month at Brunswick High School. Students entering the Teaching Academy in the eleventh grade can participate in three semesters of field experience. Students entering the Academy their Senior year must do a minimum of two periods of field experience to graduate from the Teaching Academy at their home high school. Students must provide their own transportation to Brunswick High School for class and inservice, as well as to field experience.
Students need to apply for next year from January 4, 2010-April 15, 2010 for the Academy.

To apply students need to:
- Have a minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average
- Enrollment in the University of Maryland or Dual Completer Program
- 90% attendance rate
- Write an essay telling why you wish to enroll in the Teaching Academy (one Page typed)
- Two teacher recommendations
